TAMPA-Walmart has signed a contract to buy the former Abraham Chevrolet dealership in the Seminole Heights section of the city.
The long vacant property could become a Walmart store, according to a report at tbo.com. The retailer has a contract to buy the property at 1720 E. Hillsborough Ave. pending approvals.
No details on the possible store project were available. An environmental study is underway to determine if any toxins must be removed from the site and court records indicate the site, owned by Abraham Chevrolet Co., is valued for tax purposes at about $2.8 million.
City officials stated in letters to the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association that Walmart was recently approved to install driveways on Mohawk Avenue and 19th Street to separate customer and truck traffic onto and off of the property. See story at tbo.com.
