NEW YORK CITY-The City Council could vote on a rezoning plan for the Hudson Square district later this month.
On Wednesday, the City Council's land use committee and zoning subcommittee approved some modifications to the rezoning plan that would allow for approximately 130 new affordable housing units and new measures to preserve a proposed historic area, according to the Wall Street Journal. The modifications approved by the council also include the allocation of approximately $3 million to fix the roof at Pier 40.
The rezoning was proposed by Trinity Real Estate, which controls a significant part of the land in the Hudson Square neighborhood.
“Today's positive action significantly advances the process launched more than five years ago, and we look forward to the re-zoning's final consideration by the full Council,” states Trinity President Jason Pizer.
“The Hudson Square rezoning will transform our thriving business neighborhood into a 24/7 community,” says Ellen Baer, president of the Hudson Square Connection Business Improvement District. “The retail and amenities to follow the residential development will provide the creative workers in Hudson Square with the conveniences New Yorkers expect.” See story in the Wall Street Journal.
