SARASOTA, FL-Saks Fifth Avenue is closing its Westfield Southgate Mall store next year as it readies to open a larger store at the planned Mall at University Town Center in 2014.

Saks officials made the store closing announcement late Thursday. The retailer will open an 80,000-square-foot store, which will be double the size of its Southgate store, when the University Town Center opens next year. Saks' UTC store opening is expected in October 2014.

“Saks Fifth Avenue presently operates a store at Westfield Southgate that will close when the new store at The Mall at University Town Center opens,” the company stated in a press release.

The UTC store, being developed at Interstate 75 and University Parkway by a joint venture of Taubman Centers Inc. and Benderson Development Co., will include an expanded women's shoe boutique, an enhanced men's section; and an exclusive in-house restaurant, the retailer states. The new store will be designed by retail architectural firm Jensen and Goldstein. See story in the Herald-Tribune.
