CHARLOTTE, NC-A major business leader here says he is concerned that the Carolina Panthers may look elsewhere to play if efforts to obtain funding for its planned $200-million stadium renovation fail to cross the goal line.

Charlotte Chamber of Commerce President Bob Morgan tells the Charlotte Business Journal, “The clock is ticking, and I'm concerned every day that we don't have a deal. Charlotte's status as an NFL city is in play. You could call me impatient.”

A political source, who demanded anonymity, tells the newspaper that the current break down in negotiations, caused mainly by North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory's refusal to consider a state contribution of $62.5 million and state legislators' refusal to authorize an increase in local meal taxes to pay most of the city's portion, could send the team to a temporary home in California as soon as 2014.
