PURCHASE, NY -State officials unanimously voted on Tuesday to shutter Long Island College Hospital in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn.

The State University of New York Board of Trustees voted to close the 150-year-old facility at a meeting held at the SUNY campus in Purchase, NY in Westchester County. For a shutdown to take place, the New York State Board of Health must also approve the closure, according to the New York Daily News.

“We are resource poor. We don't have the financial sustenance to keep LICH open,” says SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher.

SUNY Downstate Medical Center President Dr. John Williams says he tried to find another operator, but found no interest, noting SUNY spoke with North Shore-LIJ and Mt. Sinai about the storied Brooklyn facility. See story in the New York Daily News.
