TOMBALL, TX-Baker Hughes has launched construction on the newest facility on its 100-acre campus, located to the north of Houston. The $50 facility is called the Western Hemisphere Education Center, and a completion date is anticipated for early 2014.

According to an article in the Houston Chronicle, the goal of the development at 11211 Farm-to-Market 2920 is to consolidate regional employee training across the company's even product lines, and will be used to train oilfield and rig workers on new and existing drilling technologies. Additionally, other training courses geared toward non-drilling personnel will be available.

The development will include:

  • A 72,445-square-foot education building
  • A 36,000-square-foot workshop
  • A 16,730-square-fot canteen, lab and auditorium
  • A 156,000-square-foot yard with two training rigs
