RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC-Officials with the North Carolina Biotechnology Center here say Gov. Pat McCrory's budget would cut its appropriation by $10 million this year.
The funding cut would leave the organization with $7.2 million this year for its operations and grants programs, according to the Triangle Business Journal.
Biotech Center President and CEO Norris Tolson says the budget cut from the state would “cause us to default on our commitments to startup companies, research and development grants, economic development opportunities and education projects all across North Carolina.”
Robin Deacle, vice president of corporate communications for the center, says if the $10-million cut to the center was instituted, it would result in a “fundamental change” for the center geared to growing the biotech industry in North Carolina. See story in the Triangle Business Journal.
