DALLAS-The Dallas Business Journal reports that the Texas Department of Transportation is ready to step in and provide funding for 13 private airport control towers throughout Texas that were slated to lose money from the Federal Aviation Administration because of sequestration. Locally, this means towers at Dallas Executive Airport and Collin Country Regional Airport in McKinney will benefit.

According to the article, the tab will be approximately $7 million, a cost that needs to be approved by the Texas Transportation Commission. “Safety is the primary reason we felt a need to take immediate action for the air travelers and business aircraft that use these airports,” said commissioner Fred Underwood of the Texas Transportation Commission in the article.

Airport towers at Grand Prairie Municipal and Fort Worth Spinks airports will continue to receive federal funding through Sept. 30, the agency said.
