BALTIMORE-The struggling Towson Commons shopping center here is getting a much needed boost as LA Fitness plans to open a facility in more than 50,000 square feet of space there.
LA Fitness will eventually open a two-level club in former movie theater space totaling 52,700 square feet at York Road and Pennsylvania Avenue, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.
The facility will feature an indoor pool, basketball and racquetball courts, a spin area and whirlpool spas and saunas. LA Fitness has not announced opening dates yet, but interior demolition on the theater space has begun, the newspaper reports.
The 383,500-square-foot Towson Commons shopping center has lost a number of tenants over the past few years and was sold at bankruptcy auction in 2010 to a subsidiary of Capmark Financial. See story in the Baltimore Business Journal.
