ROCKVILLE, MD-Choice Hotels will be taking occupancy of its opulent corporate headquarters this week at Rockville Town Center and will vacate the property it had leased for about three decades in Silver Spring.
Construction is all but completed on the hotel franchise chain's new 190,000-square-foot building that is fashioned after its IT headquarters in Phoenix. The new building has open floor plans to encourage collaboration and is designed to meet environmental standards under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design ratings system, according to the Washington Post.
The company had fielded incentive offers from Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Connecticut, before opting to relocate to Rockville. The state, county and city of Rockville provided a package of $4.2 million in subsidies to lure the hotel out of its leased digs in Silver Spring.
“It's also in a more accessible location. “I won't say people are skipping to the new office, but it will be nice to be in a building where the heating and air conditioning works,” Stephen P. Joyce, president and CEO of Choice Hotels tells the Washington Post.
The company's new corporate headquarters is next to 140-room Cambria Suites hotel, a Choice Hotels' brand being targeted for select urban markets. See story in the Washington Post.
