SARASOTA, FL-Hoteliers are wondering aloud if Easter falling earlier than normal this year will slow down what has been a brisk tourism season in Southwest Florida.
"With Easter at the end of March, we're not getting that kick we normally would get during the month of April," says Virginia Haley, president of Visit Sarasota County, the county's tourism agency.
Easter Sunday has been traditionally considered the end of the high tourism season. Haley, however, says that perhaps high demand so far in 2013 may spill over into April, according to the Sarasota Herald Tribune. Continued harsh weather in the early spring in the northern part of the county could also bolster the tourism industry in Florida in the coming weeks.
"The demand is still there," Haley says. "We're hoping that the last-minute travelers who tried to book in March and couldn't find what they wanted had no choice but to reschedule to come in April." See story in the Herald Tribune.
