SPRINGFIELD, MO- McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.will break ground today in Springfield on a $28 million rehabilitation hospital for Mercy and Centerre Healthcare. The site of the future 63,000-square-foot, two-story building sits across the street from where McCarthy has already begun building the 200,000-square-foot Mercy Orthopedic Hospital. The rehab center will provide inpatient rehabilitation for patients recovering from strokes, brain or spinal cord injuries, amputations, orthopedic injuries and other conditions. The firm says they will complete construction on the 60-bed rehab hospital early in 2014.
McCarthy was chosen for the project after a competitive process led by a team consisting of Duke Realty Corporation, functioning as the owner, and a group from Mercy and Centerre. McCarthy has already constructed more than 800 healthcare facilities.
Mercy, one of the country's largest Catholic healthcare providers, and the Nashville-based Centerre Healthcare Corporation, a developer of rehabilitation hospitals, formed the Mercy and Centerre Healthcare partnership and worked together on similar projects in St. Louis and Oklahoma City. Nashville-based architectural firm Earl Swensson Associates, Inc. will help design the new rehab hospital.
