NEW YORK CITY-New York State officials announced today that the popular NBC television show “America's Got Talent” is relocating its production facilities form Newark to Radio City Music Hall here beginning with its upcoming eighth season.
The relocation of the television program from the Performing Arts Center in Newark to Rockefeller Center is estimated to create more than 500 jobs and result in more than $100 million in economic activity each broadcast season. America's Got Talent will air live from Radio City Music Hall twice a week, starting July 23.
“Today's announcement is further proof that New York is becoming the place to go for the film and television industry, creating new jobs for New Yorkers and spurring economic activity across the state,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo says. “We have the resources, the talented workforce, and the best venues, including the iconic Radio City Music Hall, which will be sure to inspire the contestants of 'America's Got Talent'–and all the visitors who flock to see it.”
NBCUniversal officials say that while the move was made for creative reasons, the relocation would not have been possible without the assistance provided by the recent extension and enhancement of the New York Film Production Tax Credit.
Trish Kinane, executive producer of the summer series, says, “We are delighted that season eight of 'America's Got Talent' will come from New York's iconic Radio City Music Hall. This venue has welcomed some of the best acts in the world, and AGT will continue in that tradition by bringing exciting new performers to this legendary stage.”
