ST. PAUL, MN-The Ordway Center's plan to build a new concert hall at what is now the McKnight Theater here is taking shape with demolition of the theater likely to begin this summer.

The new 1,100-seat concert hall, when finished, will be the home of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. The facility will replace the 306-seat McKnight Theater, according to the Star Tribune.

The concert hall project is being financed by a $79-million fundraising campaign that includes $40 million for construction, $7 million in transition costs, and a $32-million endowment to cover operating costs, the newspaper reports.

“We're very close to where we want to be and we'll be making an announcement in the weeks ahead,” says Ordway President and CEO Patricia Mitchell. See story in the Star Tribune.
