TAMPA-Court records reveal that a buyer has possibly emerged for Channelside Bay Plaza, however it appears it is not Tampa Bay Lighting owner Jeff Vinik.

The 234,520-square-foot Channelside entertainment/retail complex opened in 2001, but has struggled since then. In 2010, the owner Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp. of New York defaulted on a $27-million loan on the property and the Irish bank that held the note foreclosed, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

A document filed Thursday in the 2010 Channelside foreclosure case reveals that a prospective purchaser is in negotiations with the bank that foreclosed on the property. A group led by Vinik negotiated with the Irish bank last year to buy Channelside, but withdrew in October because the title of the property was not free and clear. A Vinik representative tells the newspaper that his firm has not revived its plan for Channelside. See story in the Tampa Bay Times.
