FLORENCE, NJ-Construction has begun on what will be the new corporate headquarters for Burlington Coat Factory here.
When construction is completed in the fall of 2014, the 215,000-square-foot building will house more than 800 employees, including 120 new full time workers. Burlington Coat Factory has more than 500 stores in 44 states and Puerto Rico.
On Friday, company representatives and state and local officials staged a groundbreaking for the project. The start of construction comes 10 months after Burlington renewed its commitment to remain in New Jersey. Last year, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority approved a $40-million GrowNJ incentive for Burlington Coat Factory and a sales tax exemption on eligible expenses incurred at the project site.
“This is an exciting day for Burlington Coat Factory. I would like to thank Governor Christie, Acting Governor Guadagno and the State of New Jersey for making it possible to maintain and grow our corporate headquarters within the state,” stated Thomas Kingsbury, Burlington Coat Factory's president and CEO.
