ENFIELD, CT-Lego Systems has enlarged its headquarters footprint by nearly 40%, taking an additional 80,198 square feet of office space in a lease expansion at Enfield Business Park here. The deal brings Lego's share of the five-building campus to 299,325 square feet, or more than half the 587,736 square feet at Enfield Business Park.

Based in Denmark, Lego has its North American headquarters in Compass House at Enfield Business Park, where it's been a tenant since 1976. The company plans a renovation of the new space, located in what was formerly a manufacturing facility, and plans to add 65 jobs there by year's end and as many as 250 positions in the next few years, according to the Hartford, CT Courant.

The renovation of the new space will be along the lines of one that Lego completed in 2011, which Phil Smith, leasing director of the national industrial portfolio at Calare Properties, says in a release “ranks best in kind. The space is modern, bright and beautiful—and the new offices will be just as stunning. Improvements, like these, continue to advance the world-class image of the park, a benefit for both existing and future tenants.”

Calare, Hackman Capital Partners and KBS Real Estate Investment Trust own Enfield Business Park. The leasing agent there is Sean Duffy at Cushman & Wakefield.

Lego's expansion limits options for prospective tenants at the facility. Currently there is 37,580 square feet of flex space on two floors at Enfield's 99 Print Shop, which the release states is ideal for engineering, R&D, office or call center operations.

In February, parent company Lego A/S reported that US sales rose 26% in 2012. Now the world's third largest toy maker, Lego has posted double-digit sales growth in the US for eight consecutive years, according to Dow Jones Newswires.
