TRENTON-The State of New Jersey filed an appeal on Monday of a federal bankruptcy judge's ruling that indicted Monmouth engineering company Birdsall Services Group could continue to have access to some of its assets.
State officials filed a notice of appeal within hours of federal Bankruptcy Judge Michal B. Kaplan's ruling and requested a hearing and a stay of the judge's order, according to The Record. He also denied the state's request to dismiss Birdsall's request for Chapter 11 reorganization, and allowed the company to use more than $1 million to cover some expenses. Birdsall officials stated in court papers that the firm requires access to some of its $41 million in assets to continue operations.
Birdsall was indicted by a state grand jury last month for allegedly making illegal political contributions to gain lucrative government contracts in New Jersey and elsewhere. See story in The Record.
