ALEXANDRIA, VA-The Alexandria City Council has approved by a 6-1 margin a redevelopment plan that could build more than 6,00 housing units along Beauregard Street here.
The plan, which could displace more than 8,000 people, will be built over the next 25 to 30 years and will eliminate more than 2,500 affordable units with condominium and rental units. The plan also calls for the construction of retail space and parks. The go-ahead came in a council vote on Saturday on the “Beauregard Small Area Plan.”
"The city of Alexandria Council has made an unprecedented commitment to preserving and protecting affordable housing," Mayor Bill Euille says in a news release. See story at wtop.com.
