NEW YORK CITY-With the New York Science & Technology Center @BioBAT undergoing a redevelopment that's scheduled for completion during this quarter, Colliers International and Tarvin Commercial Real Estate have been named exclusive leasing agents for the project. They'll be looking to attract tenants from a potential base that includes pharmaceutical firms, contract research organizations and medical device companies.

“Life sciences companies will now have access to affordable, premiere space in one large Brooklyn campus,” Andrew Tarvin, senior managing director of Tarvin Commercial, says in a release. “Tenants will also have access to the wealth of medical and academic centers in the area.”

Adds John Cahill, managing director at Colliers' Tri-State Life Sciences division, “We are already speaking with several potential tenants, including growing, New York City area-based biotech firms, and diagnostic companies.” Cahill and his colleague John Cunningham, executive managing director, are spearheading leasing efforts along with Tarvin.

The 500,000-square-foot BioBAT project, part of the 1.7-million-square-foot Building A at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, is a joint venture of the New York City Economic Development Corp. and SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Its current tenant roster includes the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, which occupies approximately 38,000 square feet. The $50-million capital improvements program now under way is intended to bring the facility to LEED Silver standards, as well as providing an infrastructure that can support R&D labs.
