TRENTON, NJ-An engineering company indicted on charges it circumvented the state's political contribution laws has reached a $2.5-million settlement to end an effort by the State of New Jersey to seize its assets.
The settlement, announced by the State Attorney General's office on Monday, also included an agreement from Birdsall Services Group that it would set aside $1 million for any fines or penalties that may be levied out of the prosecution of the company and seven former executives on pay-to-play violations, according to The Record.
While a state Superior Court froze Birdsall's assets shortly after the indictments were handed down last month, the company subsequently filed bankruptcy and received court permission to use its assets to pay employees. Prosecutors were intending to appeal the ruling prior to Monday's settlement agreement. See story in The Record.
