CHARLOTTE, NC-Inland American Communities reports it began construction earlier this month on a 671-bed student housing community here.

Construction on the University House Boulevard project near the UNC Charlotte campus started on April 1. Pre-leasing is scheduled for this August with the opening of units in the fall of 2014.

The five-story development will house a total of 300 units with studio, one-, two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom floor plans available. Amenities will include a resort-style pool, parking garage, fitness center, as well as a multimedia area, clubroom and Internet café. All utilities, including cable and Internet, are included in the rental price, and all apartments come fully-furnished, company officials say.

“This development will be a great addition to our portfolio and a property the UNC Charlotte community will enjoy,” says Travis Roberts, president of IAC. “Our strategy is to build our portfolio through a two path approach, by breaking ground on new developments and purchasing recently opened properties at top-tier schools.”

IAC has teamed with Charlotte-based Southern Apartment Group on the development and has retained CF Evans as the general contractor on the project. DAS Architecture and Land Design are providing architectural and civil engineering services.
