BLOOMINGTON, MN-The Mall of America intends to submit its preliminary development plan for a $225-million expansion to the 4.2-million-square-foot complex next week.
The mall, owned by the Triple Five Group, will present the expansion plan for the north side of the property to the city of Bloomington on April 25. The plan calls for the development of a luxury hotel, high-end retail, a new dining area and an underground parking ramp, according to the Twin Cities Business Journal.
Mall officials are hoping to secure all approvals that would allow construction to begin in September or October with construction on the expansion completed by the summer of 2015.
“The typical 1980s or 1990s food court, which is what we have today, is just a row of restaurants with a sea of seating,” says Kurt Hagen, vice president of development for Triple Five. “We're trying to create a brand new, more high-end dining experience with higher quality tenants and a different style of seating pockets. It will be very different from what you're used to seeing.” See story in the Twin Cities Business Journal.
