NEW CARROLLTON, MD-In order to bring in more commercial tax revenue, the New Carrollton City Council is considering a proposal to establish a $1-million economic development fund to attract businesses along Annapolis Road.
The New Carrollton Area Revitalization District, introduced earlier this week, would use $1 million of the city's $4 million in cash reserves to provide financial incentives for potential businesses, including funding for relocation expenses, temporary tax breaks, and matching grants for new or current businesses to improve their facades, according to the Gazzette.net.
The incentive fund seems to be the logical next step after annexation of a portion of Annapolis Road last December, according to Assistant City Administrator Miranda Braatz.
