MIAMI-The tourist trade in Broward and Miami-Dade counties last month was “stellar,” according to hotel and tourism professionals here.

Smith Travel Research released March statistics on Monday that showed that Broward County hotels were 88.4% occupied, an increase of five percentage points compared to March 2012. Average daily rates increased 8.6% to $153.34, a level that hasn't been hit since March 2008.

March activity was equally impressive in Miami-Dade, with hotels 89.1% occupied, an increase of more than four percentage points from 12 months earlier. Rates soared 14.4% to $238.12.

“You won't find anything better,” says Nicki Grossman, Broward's tourism chief. “This past March has been the most stellar performing March that we have ever had. …We're grinning real wide right now.” See story in the Miami Herald.
