PHILADELPHIA-Although some positive demographic trends have emerged of late for the city, Philadelphia's business community continues to struggle in terms of employment.
Three recently released economic reports, the latest by the Center City District entitled “State of Center City, 2013” released on Monday, chronicle the continued loss of jobs in Philadelphia. The report, which cites a cleaner city, a drop in serious crime, and an increase in retail and restaurant activity as some of the positive trends taking place, sees a turnaround in jobs as critical for the city's future.
Center City District President and Chief Executive Paul R. Levy has set a goal of adding 50,000 to 100,000 jobs by 2023 in the city, according to the Inquirer.
"If you can turn around 50 years of population decline, you can turn around 50 years of employment decline," Levy said. "We need to set this goal." See story in the Inquirer.
