WASHINGTON, DC-The city's push to turn St. Elizabeth's East Campus into a landmark tech and innovation hub moved a little closer to being realized. After widespread speculation and expectation, the anchor tenants are official and one is the Microsoft Innovation Center. The other tenants will be Citelum and SmartBIM.
St. Elizabeth's East is the city's largest mixed-use project; the Innovation Hub will be the core of its first phase of development.
The companies were featured at a conference held on Thursday at which potential university respondents to the Request for Expressions of Interest for an academic anchor at St. E's were formally briefed on the site. The RFEI will be followed by a formal Request for Proposals later this year.
Microsoft will be locating a Microsoft Innovation Center on the site, a technology facility designed to enable Microsoft to form partnerships with local companies. Citelum is locating its U.S. headquarters and lighting innovation center on the campus to focus on LED lighting technology and energy-efficient lighting. SmartBIM will use the office and demonstration facilities on the campus to showcase its technologies and offer training programs.
