WASHINGTON, DC-The design of the redeveloped Old Post Office by Donald and Ivanka Trump was given an initial approval by the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts.

The seven-member commission's opinion, while not binding, does give the Trumps guidance as it finalizes plans for the conversion of the storied facility into a $200-million, 271-room hotel, according to the Washington Post.

“We are very excited to have reached this important milestone as we advance our plans for the re-development of the iconic Old Post Office building,” says Ivanka Trump in a statement. “We have been working with the Commission of Fine Arts for over a year and their feedback and guidance has been invaluable. We look forward to our continued collaboration as we work towards realizing the full potential of this national treasure.”

The Trump Organization and the General Services Administration are currently trying to hammer out a 60-year lease on the Old Post Office property. See story in the Washington Post.
