JACKSONVILLE, FL-Developer Mike Balanky gave residents of the Avondale neighborhood here a glimpse of his waterfront project on Monday that will feature apartments and retail on St Johns Ave.

Balanky is looking to secure land use and zoning changes for the St Johns Village retail center and the Commander Apartments parcels. His plan calls for the demolition of both structures and to construct a maximum of 350 apartments and 42,000 square feet of retail space, according to the Jacksonville Business Journal.

Attorney Steve Diebenow, who represents the developer, told Avondale residents at a hearing on Monday, that the property owner is conducting market research to ascertain the best mix of apartments and retail for the property. “The general concept is to have the units on the river side, around parking garages, with first-floor retail,” he says.
