CHICAGO-The newly launched Hostess Brands says it will open bakeries here in Illinois as well as in Indianapolis, IN.

The company's latest announcement came about a week after the firm, owned by private equity firms Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co., reported that it planned to reopen shuttered bakeries in Georgia and Kansas, according to the Associated Press.

Hostess filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year and in November was granted court approval to wind down operations after talks with the striking bakers union failed to reach an agreement. In November, a federal bankruptcy judge gave Hostess the go-ahead to wind down after failed negotiations with its striking bakers union. The Apollo Global-Metropoulos venture acquired Hostess last month for $410 million. See story in the Chicago Tribune.
