ROCKVILLE, MD-A JBG Cos. office located at One Choke Cherry Road here has earned USGBC's LEED Silver certification for Existing Buildings Operations & Maintenance (LEED EB-O&M). It took 12 months for the company to implement the necessary improvements to score the certification, which is JBG's first EB-O&M in Maryland. The company is now working with its federal tenant to attain Gold status, by 2016.
Earlier this year USGBC reported that the District was the top performer in LEED certifications. Its annual ranking showed that the nation's capital certified 110 projects last year, for a total of 22.2 million square feet.
Virginia came in second, Colorado at third, followed by Massachusetts. Then came Maryland. Maryland, though, is catching up with its green bona fides. The state recently saw the largest rooftop solar power system installation to date – on IKEA's 1.7 million-square-foot distribution center in Perryville. The system has enough generating capabilities to support 359 homes per year.
