SPRINGFIELD, IL-The Illinois State Senate passed a bill that would expand gaming in the state. The bill if adopted, could result in five new casinos in the state, including one in Chicago.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel endorsed the bill and promised that casino revenue would be earmarked for rebuilding schools in the city.

Besides Chicago, other casino locations would be in Rockford; Danville; a Lake County site in Park City, Waukegan or North Chicago; and the south suburbs, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The bill, which passed the Senate by a 32-20 margin, would also allow slot machines at horse tracks and at Midway and O'Hare airports. The legislation would ban campaign contributions from gambling interests and allow the Illinois Gaming Board to regulate a city casino. See story in the Chicago Tribune.
