CHICAGO-Indiana-based Lakhany Group Investments LLC has proposed what a representative calls an “upgraded” Freedom Plaza proposal that includes a new Embassy Suites Hotel, a conference center and restaurants at the north Naperville site.
The proposal brought before the Naperville Planning and Zoning Commission on Wednesday calls for the hotel development on 13.2 acres of vacant land on Abriter Court between Diehl Road, and Interstate 88, according to the Chicago Tribune. Along with a 168-room Embassy Suites hotel and restaurant, the project also features a 13,000-square-foot banquet facility that could hold up to 1,080 people and four freestanding restaurants.
In late 2011, City Council members approved a hotel on the site, but rejected a plan to re-zone the area to build a nursing home facility. Russ Whitaker, attorney for the developer, told the commission earlier this week that the new design is a "significant upgrade" from the earlier plan.
"If you look at the old design here it doesn't invoke the same contemporary feel that you have in the new design," he says. See story in the Chicago Tribune.
