MELBOURNE, FL-Virginia-based Northrop Grumman Corp. could receive about $19 million in incentives from Florida in connection with its planned expansion in Brevard County here.
The military contractor is planning to build a new aircraft design facility in Melbourne. The work at the new facility, which will employ approximately 1,000 employees, will involve an unknown number of workers from a Northrop operation on Long Island, NY, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The company could receive $18.7 million in state and local incentives over the next five to 10 years, according to the newspaper.
Last month, the Melbourne City Council and the Brevard County Commission approved incentives worth $4.4 million.
Lynda Weatherman, chief executive officer of the Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast, says the Northrop Grumman project will produce a $69-million construction project, a $75-million annual payroll with an average annual wage of $75,000, and an additional 1,500 indirect, or spinoff, jobs.
