EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ-The Giants and Jets have expressed some concerns over a proposed new connector bridge that would link the long-delayed American Dream complex to an indoor amusement park.

While details of the proposed addition have yet to be made public, the Star Ledger reports the plan by developer Triple Five would involve the construction of a massive, multilevel bridge with additional retail space linking the existing complex to a planned water park and amusement area.

The newspaper reports the proposed connector and drawings show an additional 300,000 square feet of space at the development. A spokeswoman for the two National Football League teams says the original proposal called for a relatively small walkway from the complex to the amusement parks.

Alan Marcus, spokesman for Triple Five, says there are no proposals at the present time that would change the total amount of available leasable space at the American Dream property. He adds that the project will total 2.839 million square feet of gross leaseable area and any reconfiguration would not increase the area, bur rather would alter the flow inside the complex.

“The teams have always been troubled about the issues of traffic and congestion for our fans,” the spokeswoman, Karen Kessler, states. “This very large proposed structure, to be suspended over a four-lane roadway, bears no relation to the originally proposed small pedestrian bridge and would need to be carefully analyzed for its impact on the site, traffic and congestion.” See story in the Star Ledger.
