ATLANTIC CITY, NJ-Tony Rodio, CEO of the Tropicana Casino and Resort here sees gaming competitors from surrounding states as merely “Walmarts with slot machines.”
Speaking at the 17th annual East Coast Gaming Congress at Boardwalk Hall on Tuesday, Rodio says that Atlantic City is prime for a turnaround due in part to the fact that its Northeast competitors do not have the attractions Atlantic City casinos have, according to the Press of Atlantic City.
“We have a huge advantage over these regional competitors because of our diversified experience,” Rodio said. “These regional competitors are, for the most part, Walmarts with slot machines and a bar and a restaurant.”
While saying he is upbeat about Atlantic City's future, he did note that Atlantic City gambling revenue would most likely decline for the seventh straight year in 2013. However, he predicted Atlantic City fortunes would be better once it can rid itself of the lingering effects of Hurricane Sandy. See story in the Press of Atlantic City.
