LONDON-CBRE has a new head of UK retail. Well, not exactly new. Phil Cann is actually an eight-year company veteran who previously headed the UK's retail capital markets team. He came to CBRE in 2005 on the firm's acquisition of Dalgleish & Co.

He replaces Ciaran Bird, who was promoted to UK managing director in January. His new role will take effect the first of September. In turn, Stewart Colderick will step in to fill the void left by Cann's promotion.

Malcolm Dalgleish will continue in his role as retail chairman and, according to a company statement, will continue to focus on client relationships and business development.

“I am excited to be given the opportunity to lead what is already a strong retail team,” said Cann in the statement, “and I am looking forward to the opportunities that this new role will bring, especially at a time when the retail sector is going through such change.”

Presumably, that change is the marked improvement in retail conditions post-recession.

“Having worked with Phil for the past 20 years I know that he will be an excellent leader for the retail team,” adds Dalgleish. “Under Phil's leadership we will continue to grow and strengthen our retail capabilities. His promotion will provide a smooth transition for our clients and the team. I look forward to working with Phil over the coming months as he moves into his new role.”
