TALLAHASSEE, FL-Gov. Rick Scott has signed into law a bill that strengthens the requirements for businesses receiving state brownfield tax incentives.
The measure requires companies receiving brownfield aid to be on or next to a property where a pollution agreement with the government is in effect, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
In 2011 and part of 2012 Florida businesses received as much as $11 million in brownfield tax breaks, the newspaper reports.
The new law also prohibits businesses from securing brownfield tax credits simply because there is a perception of pollution, which had occurred in the past due to ambiguities in the prior state brownfield law. See story in the Orlando Sentinel.
