RIDGEFIELD, NJ-The Borough Council voted on Tuesday to table a vote on converting open space here for senior public housing.

The council was to approve a 99-year lease agreement with the project developer, the Housing Authority of Bergen County, that would have allowed a 56-unit public senior housing project to be built on a 1.26-acre parcel. Prior to adopting the resolution to table the vote, more than a dozen Ridgefield residents voiced their objections to the project. Planning Board member Harry Pfaff submitted a petition with more than 400 signatures that requested the council allow a non-binding referendum decide if the borough-owned tract should be developed for the project, according to The Record.

Charlotte Vandervalk, director of development for the Housing Authority of Bergen County, was disappointed by the council's decision, but was hopeful the project would be reconsidered.

“There are many people that are hurting in Ridgefield that could benefit from a project like this,” she said. See story in The Record.
