DURHAM, NC-Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina has acquired two additional buildings at the University Place corporate campus here where it plans to relocate its headquarters operations at the end of next year.
The insurer will vacate its Blue Cross and Blue Shield headquarters campus in Chapel Hill on US Route 15-501, according to the Triangle Business Journal. The company currently employs approximately 900 employees at its 240,000-square-foot Chapel Hill office building that first opened 40 years ago. Those workers will relocate to six buildings Blue Cross and Blue Shield already own at the University Place campus. No terms of the building acquisition transactions were released.
The company says that once renovations of the two additional buildings purchased in Durham are complete, the company will save $2.5 million per year in lower utility and maintenance costs. See story in the Triangle Business Journal.
