CHICAGO-Direct Edge of Jersey City, NJ is set to open a disaster recovery data center here on Sept. 3.

The company joins a host of other exchange operators to move backup sites farther from their main locations due to terrorist threats, as well as the damage to New York City's financial district caused by Hurricane Sandy, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The Direct Edge data center will be located at the Lakeside Data Center at 350 E. Cermak Rd. The building now contains some of the largest exchange operators that share the 1.1-million-square-foot footprint.

Direct Edge Chief Information Officer Saro Jahani says the number of firms and data centers in the building made the move "a no-brainer," highlighting the advantage of being able to connect with each other's systems when problems arise. See story in the Chicago Tribune.
