WINSTON-SALEM, NC-The Winston-Salem City Council will now debate the merits of establishing an entertainment district here now that the City-County Planning Board approved the plan on Thursday.
Local businessmen Drew Gerstmyer and Hank Perkins want about 4.4 acres rezoned as an entertainment district, according to the Winston-Salem Journal. The current zoning is for a general business district and pedestrian business district. An entertainment district would be established to attract retail, office, residential, and indoor and outdoor entertainment. Gertsmyer said at the Thursday board meeting, “I feel this is the best spot for the entertainment district in this part of town. It's helpful and it protects existing businesses that are there.”
The proposed entertainment district would be located on the east and west sides of Trade Street between Seventh and Ninth streets and on the east side of Main Street, between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Ninth Street. See story in the Winston-Salem Journal.
