MIAMI-In what has become a bitter legal battle between Marriott International and the owners of the Eden Roc hotel in Miami Beach, Marriott officials announced on Thursday its Renaissance Hotels division will give up management of the hotel effective July 11.
Marriott has filed suit against Eden Roc's ownership, Miami real estate investment and development company Key International, seeking millions of dollars in damages for alleged breach of contract and costs, according to the Miami Herald.
Marriott states in court papers that its Renaissance division had the contract to manage the newly renovated 631-room hotel through at least 2030. The ownership sent a letter earlier this month removing Renaissance as manager, Marriott stated in the court filing. The ownership last year filed suit against Marriott for failing to maximize profits at the hotel.
Todd E. Soloway, a New York attorney representing the owners, said Destination Hotels & Resorts will manage the Eden Roc and the “vast majority” of employees will be asked to stay. See story in the Miami Herald.
