PATERSON, NJ-A new 22-story hotel could be coming to this city, according to a post on the city website by the mayor. Other city leaders are highly skeptical, though.
Mayor Jeffrey Jones said he has talked with a developer about a plan for a “cocoon-shaped blend of steel and glass” that would be built above the Great Falls at the site of the failed Vista condominium project, according to The Record. Only two weeks ago, demolition began of the one condo buildng that was finished in 2008.
The building was vacant and had become a hang-out for derelicts.
The mayor says in his post that the project will not require any city investment, but does not suggest how the project might be financed.
“It doesn't seem realistic,'' says Councilman Andre Sayegh. “We want a legitimate developer to come in and build a hotel in Paterson - not a caterpillar. It doesn't inspire confidence when we're left to scratch our heads over who's behind this.'' See story in The Record.
