AUBURN HILLS, MI-A new competitor has emerged in the battle to land Italian automaker Fiat's US headquarters.

Tennessee officials are trying to convince Fiat head Sergio Marchionne to locate the US headquarters there instead of near the Chrysler Group LLC's headquarters in Auburn Hills or in Detroit.

Marchionne met with Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and others on Sunday at a ceremony to mark the expansion of the Magneti Marelli's components plant in Pulaski, TN, according to Crain's Detroit Business. Magneti Marelli is a subsidiary of Fiat.

Sources for the business newspaper have speculated that some part of Fiat's operations might move to the U.S., and possibly to Auburn Hills, Troy or Detroit, because of Marchionne's dissatisfaction with the Italian government. See story in Crain's Detroit Business.
