WASHINGTON, DC-The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure will hold a hearing on Wednesday morning to discuss a bill geared at reining in real estate costs.

The committee will discuss H.R. 2612, the “Public Buildings Savings and Reform Act of 2013,” that would subject even small federal agencies to Congressional review, provide an annual list of all leases brokered by the General Services Administration, and require federal agencies signing new leases to explain why they weren't able to consolidate or co-locate with other agencies, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The bill, introduced on Monday by Rep. Lou Barletta of Pennsylvania, would require federal agencies to offset any new space by eliminating at least that much space in other locations. It would also mandate the GSA to submit an annual report on all completed lease deals, including data on rental rates and the amount of space leased by the agency.
