FAIRFAX, VA-Australian toll road operator Transurban is moving its US headquarters to Fairfax County from New York City. The company is based in Melbourne, Australia and currently leases space in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County from the Virginia Department of Transportation. It houses about 50 employees in the building, which also serves as the operations center for the 495 Express Lanes and the future 95 Express Lanes. The company has been working with the Commonwealth to improve transportation options in Fairfax County, says Gerald L. Gordon, president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, in a prepared statement.
Transurban's move is old hat to Virginia, which has scored some high profile headquarter moves in recent years.
Last year Intelsat, one of the world's top providers of satellite services, announced it was moving out of the District and to Tysons Tower, a building being developed by Macerich and the Alaska Permanent Fund Corp.
Earlier this year Fairfax County opened a new office in Boston to market the region to companies looking to set up shop or expand their presence in the area.
