PITTSBURGH-Now that it has zoning approvals for the project, Robert Morris University is proceeding with the planned conversion of the former Holiday Inn Pittsburgh into the Yorktown Hall student residence.
The former hotel has been used as a hotel and dorm for 332 students. However, earlier this moth the hotel portion of the property closed once the operating agreement with Prospera Hospitality ran out, according to the Pittsburgh Business Journal.
"Now that we have our zoning approval, we are moving full speed ahead in making improvements in the area of safety and infrastructure," says Robert Morris University spokeswoman Kyle Fisher.
The repositioning of the building will involve work to transform about four to five floors of the former hotel into a dormitory for about 500 students.
Other improvements that are scheduled to be finished by late August include transforming the meeting and ballroom space at the hotel to student activity rooms and study lounges, along with improving the fire alarm system and adding security doors. See story in the Pittsburgh Business Journal.
