WASHINGTON, DC-As news of the $300 million stadium planned for the Buzzard Point area of Southwest settles, many in the community are now starting to look at the project's implications for the city at large.

From a developer's perspective the deal DC United and the city struck to build the 20,000 to 25,000-seat stadium is good news, Keith Sellars, president and CEO of the Washington DC Economic Partnership, tells GlobeSt.com.

"The stadium will jumpstart activity in certain parts of the city where we haven't seen much action to date."

This is how Sellars sees it unfolding:

For starters, the new 200,000-square foot municipal facility that will be built in Anacostia near the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Good Hope Road SE, will accommodate 850 employees. Just having the government building there alone will increase the daytime population of the area, which will in turn create new opportunities for retail and service-related businesses.

Residential development could follow, first for the government workers in the building but also for workers of any new projects that may arise from the new building.

"I see private sector following the city's lead by investing in this area. That will drive land values eventually."
