BALTIMORE-T. Rowe Price, which is contemplating moving out of its downtown headquarters offices on Pratt Street, has told city officials that the safety of its workers is becoming an issue for the money management firm.

T. Rowe Price workers have been harassed by groups of youths and one of the firm's vendors was mugged outside his downtown hotel within the past two months, says T. Rowe Price CEO James A. C. Kennedy, who says he has contacted the city about its safety concerns.

"We told the mayor safety is a big issue," Kennedy said. "We want to make sure our people feel safe walking the streets of Baltimore."

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake says the city responded quickly after learning of the company's problems two weeks ago, according to the Baltimore Sun.

"I'm not trying to downplay any of the concerns," the mayor said. "However, crime in downtown has declined dramatically over the years."

T. Rowe Price announced earlier this year it was exploring options for its headquarters at 100 E. Pratt St. Its lease at that building expires in 2017. See story in the Baltimore Sun.
